We met Ian and Jan on a hot day in Cannes La-Boca in 2014. While Louise was being chatted up by Jan, Ian noticed that we were munching on a black sweet -and would like to sample it. Having travelled in different parts of the world, and often having had this particular sweet with me, I expected that Ians little test would end abruptly, as I had seen this happen many times before. Were talking salty liquorice with a vengeance. But no, the poor man kept chewing away to the point where I had to ask him if he actlually liked it? And I just couldn't believe it when he answered no :-)
Ian always did like to sample, didn't he?! Sweets, wine, herring, tech, culture, history, words, opinion -his questions and curiosity was a trait that we always considered delightful. Whilst sampling his way through life, he also shared. His and Jans home. And even their family. Ian was great company. Thanks Ian, for everything.
For the rest of that wonderful week in the south of France sweets were never again exchanged, but many words were, resulting in a surprising but much cherished friendship which we very much intend to carry on.
Love from the Danish Family, Asger, Johan, Louise and Jesper
